About Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh caters largely, but not exclusively, to scuba diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. Along the principal tourist area, Na'ama Bay, is a long stretch of immaculate hotel-owned beaches and board walk lined with trees, shops, bars and trendy restaurants. Many of the best hotels in Sharm El Sheikh are located here, including the 5-star Hyatt Regency Sharm El Sheikh Hotel just up the coast. Sharm El Sheikh hotels located in the Na’ama Bay area are not all as upscale as the Hyatt Regency; many are three and four-star hotels. Much of the city’s vibrant nightlife takes place in this part of the city which is flooded with tourists in the evenings. The international coastal resort atmosphere of Na’ama Bay caters to the tourist’s every whim, but if you want to experience some local character during your holiday in Sharm El Sheikh, you’ll have to visit the beaches and small harbour in Sharm El Maya (the old part of the city). An outing to Ras Muhammad National Park, however, is necessary to see the most beautiful unspoilt beaches in the Sharm El Sheikh area. If you are going to shop during your holiday in Sharm El Sheikh, skip the commercial centres along Na’ama Bay and try the Old Market. There are a number of exciting activities to take part in when you go on holidays to Sharm El Sheikh such as quad biking across the Egyptian desert. Sharm El Sheikh holidays also provide the opportunity to visit an exceptional historical site. Mount Sinai, where God is said to have delivered the Ten Commandments to Moses, is about 230 km away. Organised trips from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Catherine's Monastery (built in the 6th century around the site of Moses' Burning Bush) are always available. Less popular than St. Catherine’s Monastery and Mount Sinai, ‘Moses’ bath,’ a natural hot springs locally believed to cure many diseases, lies in the midst of a lovely palm tree oasis
